Immigration # 3: Blog #8

This week you will need to look at these two videos and other articles (see below) about the current situation in Arizona.  The govenor of Arizona has signed a law that anyone that looks like an illegal immigrant can be approached by the police and asked to show proper paperwork (for example-license or passport or green card) in order to not be arrested or deported.  Obama has called for action in Washington D.C. for the Congress to do something about it.  What do you think of this situation?  Does this affect you personally or culturally?  How does this affect people generally and specifically?  Write in third person your views.....

  1. The situation at Arizona is the most cruel and dad the immigrate community had suffer in a long time. Most of the immigrate population are known as a hard work community in the United States. Its not fare that people that walk a long and dangerous journey following "the american dream" shouldn't be treated like criminals. Personally this situation doesn't affect my self or anyone in my family, but as human beings ,we should show solidarity with this cause. Hispanic and latinos strongly believe that President Obama will look for a solution that will benefit all.

Every single place in Arizona is a mouse trap for the police to arrest you and send you back home.Every time that you want to go to your sons school( Bang) police shows up ,on your way to church (Bang)police shows up, you have an emergency (Bang) police shows up.This is not the kind of life that people wants in Arizona.Arizona state be ready for a lot of violence and more drugs and murder than ever because things like this cause more trouble and dont resolve any problem JOSE ESPADA

  4. The situation in Arizona is totally wrong. This affect peoples integrity and values. Is very cruel that people that want some changes in their lives and have wishes to get new opportunities receive this wrong attitude by the police. Is illogical that people when are in some place have with him all this documents. Some people maybe feel scare about this law because have the risk to be discriminate and be attack by the police. People have the hope that the President Obama get an positive solution for this cruel and inhuman law.

  5. i think that its a pretty stupid law. u really think that people are just going to stop smuggling drugs because of this, don't thinks so. the US is trying to cover up a problem with another problem. in my opinion things are getting much worse. the article that i was reading stated that Mexico has already warned the US this act will affect cross-border relations. the act is basically giving police officers permission to do what ever they like with people. i think what the US is trying to do is to make the US a safer and better place to live in but there doing it in the wrong way.

  6. The situation in Arizona affects ALL of us. If we allow such discrimination against our fellow latinamerican brothers that searching for a better future decide to cross the border we will be betraying the most basic belief in which this great American nation was buil which is freedom. It's sad to see that this people of "law" have forgotten what the United Stated of America was all about... the land of the free and the home of the brave. What's so brave about discriminating against someone who's only difference from us is that he wasnt born with U.S. citizenship? I would love to have that lady who signed the law answer my question.

  8. The estate of Arizona is acting against themselves, whit this new law and the immigrants. It is something that needs to be done, but is not the way. Immigrants need to be treated whit more respect and decency. Most important, the entire United States of America is run by immigrants.If immigrants get kicked out the whole country will be shut down whit out them.

  9. Well obviously disagree with the situation . is not a good idea to make this kind of unjustice law because, this situation its not perjudiacates de relationship between mexico and E. U. Also affects the image all over World. This law is wake up a part of the racism and xenophobia of the Arizona stated . this affect many people because if you have pen stroke of latinamerican you probably going to call for check you and now body like that. So the people how sign this don`t have any feeling about any ethnic and compasion or make another soluction to help that people to become a great persons becuase in his country don`t have oportunities to progress .but they can used other methods for example in spain many africans emigrates to found jobs or live better . they use special pograms like created special schools , factory and programs that helps that africans to become a better person. So when they go back to his country they builtd factory , fabrics to helps his people and they could transmit his skills to another persons . this is a great function to helping people without any negative law.

  10. Illegal immigration has been occurring for quite a long time. It is not a shock that Arizona state suffers from this occurrence since it is one of the closes living states to Mexico. There are bound to be a few illegal immigrants in that state. But this should not give cause to the current governor to pass such a law in which if any law enforcement authority sees someone on the street and think that they are illegal immigrants they can openly ask for their papers. This is a violation of privacy and constitutional rights. Not to mention the embarrassment that, that person will suffer if caught in front of a crowd of people, a neighbor, their family, a friend etc. And the even harder time that they will have if in such occasion they lack the right paper work that is required by law at the moment. The passing of this law by the governor of Arizona just demonstrates a racist behavior by her part. There are much better ways to deal with this kind of problem than just openly imploring latinos "Let me see your paper work!" Sure, there has to be another solution to the problem; If there even is a problem. Meaning that latinos are people just like everybody else and like everybody else, should be treated as such.

  11. Each person have right? the answer is clear Yes! Everyone is entitled to a change in their life,and if that change refers to leave yours and migrate to another country is also accepted. Arizona is fully committing an injustice with thounsands of people arriving with hopes of a better future, and work that would legally be true American, but that in many cases they simply take to migrate to the dirty work. Mny people come to Arizona to have a large covered to reach, many are complete family and some of them are solitary. the Incredible thing is that many of them when they took their children to go school and the police on the street ask for their legal papers, and if they dont have it they can be arrested or deported them. this cruelty has to another name "racism", it is hope that this effect and pain to each Latin.
    Which is not understandable is that on the one hand the latinos in Arizona are vulnerable to try to leave their home, and the other hand President Obama tell to an active soldiers naturalization ceremony that they represent the true patriotism of the country. The government must put end to all of this, and although there is a process that follow only he has all the power to end this cruelty, the streets have to be clean and the police have to taking persons that threatting the nation, but getting them with dignity because they are also human.
    In conclusion, the Congress along with his Obama president must remenber that thanks to Latinos EE.UU is a powerful nation by latin influences within the political, artistic, educational business and others, so without Latinos this nation wouldn't be like it is today.

  12. Many people now would feel threatened by the situation in the state of Arizona. This is a situation that affects every Latino who wants to travel to that state. Why people can not live peacefully with each human being on this planet, they should begin to value every person regardless of race, culture, etc ... This law in the state of Arizona can bring a lot of controversy with the Latino community. Although President Obama does not agree with this law, urges other states to avoid making the same error.

  13. The law of the governor of Arizona is out of text. Agreeing with him is something ridiculous, how can anyone who looks like an illegal immigrant can be approached by the police are you serious? This is call racism, because of the how many Mexicans who lived there, or go there to try to make up there live in a better economic way. Looking for research, there is a page on the internet where there is information about how people who live in Arizona agree with the governor and want the law to be successful. {http://www.reuters.com/article/comments/idUSTRE63M4V020100424}
    They make fun of them and don’t care they just care about their lives and don’t think in other. So many family’s that should be can worry about what are going to happened next. An Obama have to do something about it and help all does peoples.

  15. We must be aware that Immigration is illegal in the U.S.A but I believe the majority of Americans disagree with the Arizona immigration bill. I myself disagree with the overall idea of enforcement of the current Arizona immigration law. The Arizona law is racist. Even though is directed against any illegal immigrant no matter where they come from, I am sure that if a Canadian or German person without a work permit or with an expired tourist Visa is walking down the streets of Phoenix, this person will not be stopped by the police for questioning.

  16. The situation of Arizona is cruel and that the immigrate community had suffer. The Arizona law is racist because not permit ever person in this city and that no just people can not live peacefully with each human being on this planet and that so bad the best solution is to eliminate the racist in this city and the bad governor to restore the city of good thing for the people. Although President Obama does not agree with this law because can be risky should be calm in this situation to choose the best decision to this problem

  17. It is incredible that in a globalized world the answer to the challenge of immigration is so simplistic, we must attack the causes and not the consequence. Penalize and criminalize illegal immigration is not the solution. Of course there is treating the situation, but should be given another approach and the authorities must bear in mind that human dignity is paramount. It is sad to know that there are people who think that judging others by his physique is right. It’s silly to think that everything will be solved that way. Moreover they will not be possible to resolve this short-term, long term and global perspective built with the countries of origin and destination.
